Magnus the Lawmender and Facility Management
Magnus the Lawmender, King of Norway (1238-80), is well-known in Iceland for having created the law on which Jónsbók is based – a manuscript containing Iceland’s most important medieval legal code. He was a man of great influence, and he introduced legislation in Norway that ordered farmers to tar the roofs of their churches every third year. He could be regarded as a pioneer in the field of facilities management, as the law defines who is responsible for the work, how often it should be carried out, and when, just like modern methodologies.
