WELCOME TO FASTEIGN’S WEBSITE

Fasteign is the realisation of a concept in which the State and local authorities form a partnership with private entities to implement community projects, or PPPs (public private partnerships). Our partners include government and local authorities, schools and financial institutions. Many of them have transferred their existing properties to us, while at the same time, we have built many new buildings for our shareholders and leaseholders. Fasteign is owned by the institutions it serves. By limiting the projects we take onboard, we rarely take market risks. Our objective at Fasteign is to provide added value for our partners and owners.

Our inventory lists over 70 properties with a total area of over 110,000 m2. Fasteign partners include a large number of local authorities. They are: Reykjanesbær, Westman Islands, Fjardabyggd, Sandgerdi, Gardabær, Vogar, Nordurthing, Álftanes, Ölfus, Fljótsdalshérad, Grímsnes and Grafningshreppur. The financial institutions are: Glitnir, Siglufjördur Savings Bank and SPM Savings Bank. Fasteign also works in partnership with Reykjavík University. Schools, nursery schools, playgrounds, community centres, community service centres, sports halls, swimming pools, office buildings and banks are listed on our inventory.

Is Fasteign an option for you?

Fasteign Holdings has been in operation for four years, during which time the company has been a partner in a wide range of projects. We have constructed new buildings, and refurbished and revitalised older properties. Most importantly, investments are secure, and we see to the maintenance and administration of our own assets. We have introduced an option for local authorities that offers superior benefits from a financial point of view. Construction costs have fallen, and local authorities will receive better returns on their investments, along with the improved terms that a larger organisation can offer. We have joined hands with both urban and rural authorities and quickly built a service of the quality expected by today’s residents. During the last three years, the number of partnering local authorities in our company has increased rapidly as more and more councils recognise the economic benefits of forging a partnership with Fasteign and join our growing list of asset holders.

Álftanes becomes a Fasteign partner

Álftanes District recently became a Fasteign shareholder. The local authority added its existing sports centre to our inventory and plans to extend the facility to include new indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The new construction will cost around ISK 1.3bn. The 12 m indoor swimming pool and 25 m outdoor pool will be supplemented by two specialist pools, hot tubs and steam baths. The plans also include a gym, reception area and changing rooms that will serve the two swimming pools and the sports facilities.

Fasteign builds a new university building in Vatnsmýri for Reykjavík University

Fasteign and Reykjavík University (RU) signed a contract on 20 March for the construction of new buildings in Hlídarfót, Vatnsmýri, close to Nauthólsvík, to be supervised by Fasteign. RU will then lease the university buildings from Fasteign. The new structures will provide 34,000 m2 of floor space and are expected to be completed in two phases – in autumn 2009 and in autumn 2010. Henning Larsen Architects in Denmark and design partners Arkís in Iceland completed the building plans towards the end of 2006. VGK Hönnun Consulting Engineers are providing engineering design services in collaboration with Rafteikning and Cowi in Denmark. The landscape architects are Landmótun. Construction is scheduled to begin in the autumn, when the foundations will be laid.
